Safety Cage Construction
|
Charger's
rigid unibody steel construction provides solid passenger
protection. Three distinct front crush zones absorb and
direct impact energy away from the passenger compartment.
Inside, an energy-absorbing steering wheel and column
help minimize injuries from frontal impacts. Out back,
the spare tire is positioned to rotate away from the fuel
tank in the event of a rear-end collision.
|
| Advanced Multi-stage Airbags |
 Advanced
multistage driver and front-passenger air bags* and an occupant
classification system (OCS) that adjusts the deployment
force of the passenger-side front air bag based on passenger
weight come standard. Supplemental side-curtain air bags
are available to help reduce the potential for head injuries
by providing additional side-impact protection to front
and rear outboard occupants.
* Certified to the federal regulations for automatic
passenger occupant classification. Always use seat belts.
Children 12 and under should always be in a backseat correctly
using a child restraint system, or have the seat belt positioned
correctly for the child's age and weight.
|
| Electronic Stability Program |
The
standard electronic stability program (ESP)†is designed
to help drivers maintain control by measuring the vehicle's
steering angle, turning rate, and acceleration to detect
spin (oversteer) or plow (understeer), and automatically
applying the throttle and/or brakes when necessary.
† No system, no matter how sophisticated, can repeal
the laws of physics or overcome careless driving actions.
Performance is limited by available traction, which snow,
ice, and other conditions can affect.
|
| All-Speed Traction Control |
Charger's
standard all-speed traction control monitors each individual
wheel for slippage and automatically applies a precise
amount of braking and/or throttle control to maintain
traction and help keep you on your intended course.
|
|
Braking
|
|
Stopping
fast is critical. That's why all Chargers come standard
with large discs, lightweight aluminum calipers, and antilock
braking system (ABS) with brake assist on all four wheels.
- ABS increases control and stability under extreme conditions
- Brake assist applies maximum braking power in emergency
situations
- Large-diameter discs deliver more braking power
- Stiff aluminum calipers provide a firm pedal feel and
linear response
- Integrated air ducts boost performance and durability
|
| Self-Sealing Tires |
Self-sealing
tires are available to keep you on the road and out of trouble
by helping to prevent 80 percent of all flat tires. An inner
coating under the tread is coated with a material that seals
around intrusions and fills punctures in the tread area up
to 0.19 inch (5 mm) to maintain air pressure. |
| Tire Pressure Monitors |
| Maintaining proper tire pressure
is paramount for optimal safety, performance, and fuel economy.
That's why all Chargers come with a tire pressure monitoring
system that continuously checks the pressures of each tire
for proper inflation, and illuminates a warning indicator
to alert the driver if low tire pressure is detected. |
| Security |
|
A host of standard and available security features give
you peace of mind with everything from your protection,
to the protection of your vehicle.
- Sentry Key® engine immobilizer prevents the engine from
running without a properly encoded key
- Security alarm, available with the Electronics Convenience
Group, monitors the doors, ignition, and trunk lock cylinders
- Remote keyless/illuminated entry system provides control
of the door locks, parking lamps, and panic alarm from
an integrated key fob
- Child seat anchors help ease the installation of compatible
child seats with built-in anchors
