| Engine And Transmission |
| Horsepower. Once you get some, you
always want more. That's why the all-new 2004 Dodge Durango
features the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine with a best-in-class 335
horsepower and 370 lb.-ft.* of torque. That's up 90 hp from
last year.
Other engines and features:
- 3.7L V6 provides 210HP and 235 lb.-ft.
of torque
- 4.7L V8 provides 230HP and 290 lb.-ft.
of torque
- These new engines deliver a 7-percent
improvement in fuel efficiency
- Choice of four- or five-speed transmissions
|
| Big Size |
|
|
Apparently, the all-new Durango didn't
get wind of any of those new fad diets. It's grown seven inches
longer, three inches taller and three inches wider than the
previous Durango while maintaining the drivability and maneuverability
of a smaller SUV. It must like all the carbs. |
| Smooth Ride |
|
|
To get a really smooth ride out of
most vehicles you need to pay extra to get the better suspension
system. Not with this all-new Durango. It has a new, longer
wheelbase and wider track, new rear suspension, new rack-and-pinion
steering, torsion bar independent front suspension and an all-new
hydroformed frame for added stiffness. |
| Towing And Hauling |
|
 |
You can pack plenty inside Durango with 102.4 cu.-ft. of
cargo volume and 1,780 lbs. of payload. Plus, if you equip
it with the HEMI engine you'll get the best-in-class 8,950
lbs.* of towing capability that comes with it. Or opt for
the other two powerful engines:
- 3.7L V6 - Max towing capacity of 3,700 lbs
- 4.7L V8 - Max towing capacity of 7,400 lbs*
*When properly equipped. Based on Automotive
News classification.

| All Wheel Drive |
|
|
Two new available AWD electronic shift transfer cases - Single-Speed
and Two-Speed - are engaged at all times and electronically
controlled via a switch on the instrument panel. Both transfer
cases provide traditional part-time 4-wheel drive operating
mode for maximum traction on slippery surfaces. Best of all,
standard full-time AWD "set-it-and-forget-it" is
always there when you need it.
